How do I post an item to a group?: (Apply to Freegive yahoo recycling group only)

• There are numerous ways to post an item to your local Freegive Group.

Post an item by sending an email:

To send a message to the rest of the group, just address an email to groupname@yahoogroups.com, substituting the actual name of your group for "groupname." Group names are not case sensitive.

Note: make sure to replace "groupname" in the above commands with the actual name of the group (e.g., glasgowfreegive@yahoogroups.com)

Note: You can only post to Freegive groups you've joined, and only from email addresses registered with Freegive Yahoo! Groups. If you misspell the name of a group, or attempt to send an email from an account other than the one you joined under, your message won’t be delivered. If you receive a failure notice, check your email addresses and try again.

• Do I need a Yahoo! email address to use Freegive Yahoo! Groups? The answer is No. You can use any other email address to join freegive group and post an item to your local freegive group. Please read more.

Post an item from the freegive yahoo! group web site:

After you've signed in, go to the group you wish to post to, and click Post link in the left hand navigation bar on the group page. Write your message, and then click Send button.

Note: Yahoo! Groups restricts messages to 15 megabyte in size to prevent abuse. This includes both the message body and the attachment.

Tips on how to post an item to your local freegive group: (Apply to Freegive yahoo recycling group only)

Example of posting an item to Lambeth Freegive Group:

• You must first join Lambeth Freegive Group.
• Go to Lambeth Freegive Group home page.
• Click on the link " Visit the main Lambeth Freegive Yahoo! Group page ".
• You will be taking to Lambeth Freegive Yahoo Group homepage and click "Join this Group". You will be asked to " sign in " using your " Yahoo ID " and password.
• If you don't yet have a Yahoo ID, you should " Sign Up " which takes just a few seconds.
• Once you have signed in to Yahoo, you should automatically see the "Join this Group" page.
• Simply follow the on screen instructions, click `Join` and that is it.

• Post an item to Lambeth Freegive by sending an email to lambethfreegive@yahoogroups.com

• By logging into Lambeth Freegive Yahoo Group homepage and click on the Post link in the left hand navigation bar on Lambeth Freegive Yahoo Group homepage. The post message form like the one below should appear.

• When making an offer, write "offer" in the subject line first.
• Don't put your phone number in it or it will ring off the hook.
• Ask individuals to email you with their phone number.
• It's a first-come, serve type of thing.
• Once your item is gone, make another posting that says it's gone.
• Always state what area you live in. People need to know whether they have the means to get to your place to pick up the item. (Please do not put your full address).

Note: Messages will be rejected if the below format is not followed.

• ( Is your item OFFER, TAKEN, WANTED, or RECEIVED? ) - For example: OFFER
• ( Subject: ) - OFFERED: HP Printer, Model F2180 (Brixton Road, London, SW9)
• ( Text/Body: Please describe your item: ) - Good condition HP Printer, model F2180 - Will probably need new cartridges to make it work but I don't think it's a big problem. Let me know if interested.

Your (OFFERED) message will appear like this:

• OFFERED: HP Printer, Model F2180 (Brixton Road, London, SW9)
• Good condition HP Printer, model F2180 - Will probably need new cartridges to make it work but I don't think it's a big problem. Let me know if interested.

Your (WANTED) message will appear like this:

• WANTED: HP Printer, Model F2180 (Brixton Road, London, SW9)
• Hi I am looking for HP Printer, Model F2180 for my internet. If you have one that you want to give away please let me know thanks.

Your (TAKEN) message will appear like this:

• TAKEN: HP Printer, Model F2180 (Brixton Road, London, SW9)
• Thanks for the interest. These item have now gone.

Your (RECEIVED) message will appear like this:

• RECEIVED: HP Printer, Model F2180
• Thanks very much to everyone who replied and offered HP Printer, Model F2180, but I have one now. I am very happy!

How freegive group works:

• You have a television or clothes or furniture or printer or toys you were going to throw out.
• You join your local Freegive group.
• You post an offer on your local Freegive group.
• People respond to you if they are interested.
• You pick a recipient and arrange for them to collect the item.
• They take the item away.
• You let your local freegive group know that the item is no longer available by posting an item TAKEN message to the group.

• If you need an item you can request one on your local freegive recycling group in the same way by posting an item WANTED message to the group and if someone has what you're looking for they will contact you to offer it.
