Welcome to the Cambridgeshire Freegive Group!

Cambridgeshire Freegive Group connects people who are giving and getting stuff for free in their own towns. Our goal is to keep usable items out of the landfills and, at the same time, helping someone in your community by gifting them the item you no longer need. Please clear out your cupboards, attics, sheds and garages with minimal effort. Working or easily repairable goods, such as furniture, recycle toys, recycle beds, recycle sofas anything that is taking up space can be passed on to someone else if you are upgrading your own. Best of all, it's completely free to join. »

How to manage the email you receive from your local Freegive Yahoo Group:
For each group you belong to, you can choose one of these message delivery options:

    Individual Emails
Messages are delivered one at a time to your email inbox. This is the best option if you want to keep up on the latest posts immediately. Email attachments, if included in a message and allowed by your moderator, will be sent directly to you.

    Daily Digest
Messages are delivered in batches of 25 or daily, whichever comes sooner. This is the best option if you want to receive fewer mail messages and don't need up-to-the minute posts in your inbox. Email attachments are not available in digests.

    No Email
This option puts email message delivery on hold, for example while you’re on vacation. If message archives are available, this option also permits you to read messages at the Yahoo! Groups web site. Note that message archive options are determined by each moderator, and that some groups have no web message archives.

    Special Notices
This option is similar to No Email because you won’t receive normal group messages. You’ll, however, be able to receive Special Notices sent by the group's moderator.

You make these choices when you join the group, but you can change these settings at any time by going to the "Edit Membership" link at the top of the group pages. Select the `message delivery` option that will best suit you.

Find out how the group works
    How it works:
  • You have a television or clothes or furniture or printer or toys you were going to throw out.
  • You join your local Freegive group.
  • You post an offer on your local Freegive group.
  • People respond to you if they are interested.
  • You pick a recipient and arrange for them to collect the item.
  • They take the item away.
  • You let your local freegive group know that the item is no longer available by posting an item TAKEN message to the group.

  • If you need an item you can request one on your local freegive group in the same way by posting an item WANTED message to the group and if someone has what you're looking for they will contact you to offer it.

Tips on how to post an item on your local freegive group:

Is your item OFFER, TAKEN, WANTED, or RECEIVED?

  • When making an offer, write "offer" in the subject line first.
  • Don't put your phone number in it or it will ring off the hook.
  • Ask individuals to email you with their phone number.
  • It's a first-come, serve type of thing.
  • Once your item is gone, make another posting that says it's gone.
  • Always state what area you live in. People need to know whether they have the means to get to your place to pick up the item.

  • Example: Item Offer (HP Printer)

  • ( Subject: ) - OFFERED: HP Printer, Model F2180 (Cambridgeshire, England, CB23)
  • ( Text/Body: Please describe your item: ) - Good condition HP Printer, model F2180 - Will probably need new cartridges to make it work but I don't think it's a big problem. Let me know if interested.
