Does Freegive groups cost? Is there a fee?
- There are no fees or charges at all, it's completely free to join.
I applied for a Freegive membership a few weeks ago. I have not heard a reply
- There may be a requirement or short survey that needs to be replied to, in order to join.
- Check your in-box, spam, or trash folders for any email's that arrived shortly after you applied to join the group.
- Some groups require you answer a few questions before your application to join has been approved.
- If you joined online, via the website - Please check your email account, as this may be a reason for the delay.
- If you applied via email, then Yahoogroups would have sent you an email to confirm you wish to join the group.
- Please reply to this. (there is no requirement / need to change the text / message.)
- If neither of the above situations apply in your case, please contact the group owner / moderators of the group you wish to join.
- Their email address is listed on the bottom of the Freegive Yahoogroups home page.
Why do some groups have to approve new members?
- Some Groups have taken the decision to approve all new members to the group. This can delay an application, but is done for several (very good) reasons:
- Known spammers can be rejected
- Automatic signups can be rejected (stops email address harvesting)
- People can be directed to a Group that's more local to them
- If you receive an email from the Group moderators asking for more information (or just to confirm you're actually a person and not an automated computer program!), then please follow their instructions.
I have an item I no longer need, how do I give an item to a Freegive member?
- You will need to join a group before you can offer anything.
Refer to how do I find a group to join
- When you are a member, you send an email (or post a message via the
group website), to the group, with the following information :
- Subject: OFFER (your item) (your location)
- Text/Body: Describe your item. Find out more
- (Do not include your phone number / exact address in your email). If someone
wants your item(s), you can exchange contact information at that time.
I am looking for something. How do I ask the group?
- You send an email (or post a message via the group website), to the group, with the
following information :-
- Subject: WANTED (your item) (your location)
- Text/Body: Describe the item you want. Find out more
- (Do not include your phone number / exact address in your email)
- If someone has the item you are looking for and no longer wants it, they
will contact you by email and you can exchange contact details / arrange to pick
it up at that time.
